In March we launched our WeFund Campaign to try and raise £4000 to go towards Mayfest 2011. WeFund is a fund-raising platform for creative projects where people offer perks in exchange for pledges. To see our full campaign and to pledge some money towards our goal, please click here.
This project is about:
Adventurous theatre for playful people, 5th – 15th May 2011
Mayfest is Bristol’s unique annual festival of contemporary theatre. We are dedicated to presenting a broad range of unusual, playful and ambitious work from leading theatre makers from Bristol, the UK and beyond. Mayfest is rapidly making a name for itself as one of the top events in the UK theatre calendar and demonstrates Bristol’s vibrancy and willingness to experiment and play.
Mayfest relies on the generosity and support of lots of different people and organisations in order to make ends meet. We are a small team with a big appetite to make extraordinary things happen. With Mayfest 2011 almost upon us and with the economic climate as it is, we still have a significant hole in our budget, which we need to fill to make sure the festival can go ahead in the way it deserves to. We are looking for £4000 to make this year’s exciting festival programme a reality. Amongst other things this investment will go directly towards ensuring our artists are paid properly to be here, to support us to increase the reach of our events to an ever growing audience, and to help facilitate a range of cost-free events such as discussions, parties and other playful opportunities to bring people together.
Mayfest is produced in collaboration with Bristol Old Vic and works in partnership with other key arts venues across Bristol to present performances in both established theatre spaces and non-theatre spaces all over the city. It is produced by MAYK, the producing partnership of Kate Yedigaroff and Matthew Austin and receives some funding from Arts Council England.
“A pulse-racing programme of work ranging that offers fledgling local companies cheek by jowl with artists of international reputation.” (Lyn Gardner, The Guardian, 2010).
